Welded connections at high‐strength steel hollow section joints

چکیده

Abstract The calculation of the loadbearing capacity hollow section joints using design formulas according to EN 1993‐1‐8 assumes full‐strength welded connections if non‐linear stress distribution over circumference is not covered by calculation. Sufficient ductility in ensures a plastic redistribution within each joint. In case structures made high‐strength steels, it becomes more difficult meet requirement for welds as yield strength base material increases. This article begins with summary current rules and execution joints. softening behaviour steels local HAZ are then discussed. That followed presentation results from AiF‐FOSTA research project P1020 regarding influence manufacturing parameters on properties HAZ. experimental test programme single‐sided T‐connections parameter studies P1453 also described. Finally, approach presented account failure hybrid modes connections.

Creep Deformation Measurement of 316H Stainless Steel Multi-pass Welded Joints using Digital Image Correlation

A high temperature measurement system for creep deformation based on the digital image correlation (DIC) technique is described. The new system is applied to study the behaviour of a multi-pass welded joint in a high temperature tensile test and a load controlled creep test at 545°C. Spatially resolved tensile properties and time dependent creep deformation properties across a thick section typ...

Microstructural Properties of Semisolid Welded Joints for AISI D 2 Tool Steel

The aim of this study is to investigate experimentally the microstructural evolution of the joints using ledeburitic AISI D2 Tool Steel parts. The application of a new process of the semisolid joining of two parts of AISI D2 cold-work tool steel is proposed using a partial remelting method. Samples were heated in an argon atmosphere up to 1300°C and held for 10 minutes. Metallographic analyses ...

Ultra low cycle fatigue of welded steel joints under multiaxial loading

Ultra low cycle fatigue (ULCF) is a phenomenon that can be summarily defined as the deterioration of material properties under high amplitude cyclic loading, under which failure is reached typically within ten to twenty cycles. This phenomenon is observed in extreme loading scenarios such as earthquakes or exceptional winds where large cyclic strains are expected. Particularly sensitive are str...

The Influence of Ultrasonic Impact Treatment on Fatigue Behaviour of Welded Joints in High-strength Steel

The unabated growth of the steel industry and progressively increasing operating loads on metal structures generate a need for a search for optimum engineering solutions to improve the loadcarrying capacity and reduce metal consumption. One way of resolving this problem is to utilise high-strength steels. It is common knowledge however that the improvement of the steel strength is accompanied b...

Relaxation behavior of polyethylene welded joints

The paper presents results of the investigation of structure relaxation and thermal properties of PE-80 and PE-100 polyethylene hot-tool butt welds. It was found that a weld with the re-crystallized crystalline structure is formed during the welding of dissimilar types of polyethylene. It is shown that within a long period (1 year) the relaxation occurs not only in amorphous but also in the cry...
